Signature Holes at Old Drovers Run Golf Club
At Old Drovers Run Golf Club, our course offers a thrilling mix of strategic challenges, scenic beauty, and risk-reward opportunities. Here’s a look at three of our most notable holes that will test every golfer’s skill and decision-making ability.
Hole 3
Hole 3 is a picturesque but challenging Par 3 that requires precision off the tee.
- Tee Shot: At 150 yards, most players will use a mid-to-short iron depending on wind and elevation. A well-struck shot is crucial, as there’s little room for error.
- Hazards & Challenges: The green is surrounded by bunkers, and any miss left or right could leave a difficult up-and-down. Short shots may find trouble, and long shots could result in a tricky downhill putt or a missed green entirely.
- Green Complex: The green is moderately sloped, with subtle breaks that can make putting a challenge. Positioning your shot below the hole is key for a makeable birdie putt.
- Aim for the center of the green to avoid trouble and give yourself the best chance for par or birdie.
- Pay attention to wind conditions, as a gust could impact club selection significantly.
- If you miss the green, a controlled chip shot will be essential to save par.
A straightforward but demanding Par 3 that rewards precision and punishes inaccuracy!
Hole 5
Hole 5 at Old Drovers Run GC is a 540-yard Par 5 that challenges players with a mix of strategic shot placement and risk-reward opportunities.
Hole Description:
- Tee Shot:The hole begins with a narrow landing area, bordered by water hazards on the left, Accuracy off the tee is key to setting up a strong approach.
- Fairway Layout: The fairway has a gentle dogleg left, with bunkers and undulating terrain that require careful club selection. Players must navigate around or over a water hazard that cuts through the left side of the hole.
- Approach & Green: The green is well-protected by bunkers and water, making the second and third shots crucial. Going for the green in two is possible but carries significant risk, as the landing area is tight.
Key Strategy:
- A well-placed drive favors the right side to open up the approach.
- Laying up short of the water is the safer play for most, leaving a comfortable third shot to attack the green.
- Players confident in their long game may attempt to reach the green in two, but accuracy is critical to avoid hazards.
Hole 9
Hole 9 is a challenging long Par 4, demanding both distance and accuracy to score well.
Break down
- Tee Shot: A solid drive is crucial, as this hole stretches to 401 yards. The fairway is relatively narrow, with bunkers on the left and water hazard on the right, making accuracy off the tee essential.
- Approach Shot: Depending on the tee shot, golfers may face a long iron or hybrid into the green. The right side of the fairway offers the best angle, avoiding the hazards and providing a more direct shot into the pin.
- Green Complex: The green is slightly elevated, with bunkers guarding the front and left side. Any shot coming in hot may run off the back, leading to a tricky up-and-down.
Tip
- fade off the tee keeps you away from trouble on the left and avoids the water on the right.
- If you’re not confident in reaching in two, lay up short of the green for a high-percentage wedge shot.
- Par is a great score here, but bogey isn’t a disaster if you avoid penalties.
A tough but fair finishing hole that tests both power and precision!
